Today I came across a news item that the concentration of dog poop bacteria may dominate in the winter air of Detroit and Cleveland. Scientists from the university of Colarado made this “discovery”. I shudder to think of the conclusions if such a study is done in India. The nauseating fecal (human) stench fatigues our sense of smell in many cities.
That reminds me of the views of Mahatma Gandhi on sanitation and hygiene. He expressed them in many of his speeches and articles.
In 1946 at a prayer meeting, he emphasized that servants’ quarters should be as clean as ministers’ bungalows.
“There is no gainsaying that we have not learnt the art of external sanitation to the degree that the English have. What is so distressing is that the living quarters of the menials and sweepers employed in the Viceroy’s House are extremely dirty” he asserted
