Punish Scare mongers on cell tower radiation
Recently, Communications Minister Shri Kapil Sibal, proposed doubling the penalty for violation of standards on cell tower radiation. It is a welcome step. An equally important step is to identify whether any one is carrying out well organized programmes to scare public.
Continuous propaganda day in day out can scare members of the public. It may not take much time or effort to see how such activities influences public opinion.
Mr Sibal will be doing a laudable public service, if he can set up a mechanism to find out whether some professionals masquerading as “experts” are deliberately spreading unsubstantiated and unscientific rumours on alleged health effects of radiation by conducting seminars workshops etc. While India has stipulated a very conservative limit for permissible radiation levels of radiation from cell towers, the agents selling shields, paints and curtains are using the Bioinitiative Reports, condemned by responsible agencies worldwide, to plead for lowering the permissible levels to extremely low values.
These agents are using instruments which comply with “standards” recommended by Bioinitiative reports in the residence of cancer patients to show that DOT levels are very dangerous. I request Mr Sibal to initiate strong measures against this sort of terrorism. Lay public may not have access to relevant literature from WHO or other responsible agencies. Action taken by the Government must be harsher if these agents misuse their academic credentials to confuse the public. The misinformation spread by them must be refuted officially and follow up action initiated to arrest such diabolic activities.
WHO WILL BELL THE CAT?
